As a film student at UMN, I learned a lot directly from lecturers who are well-experienced in their fields. Not only did I gain knowledge in the form of theory, but I also gained a lot of practical experience in film production with fellow students and lecturers. In addition, I learned many things outside of film production, such as distribution and film festivals, from courses and film community activities on campus. I also have many relationships or connections at UMN that have supported my career journey to date.

UMN has lecturers who are competent in their fields. In a sense, apart from teaching film, they are well-recognized, and the quality is outstanding, so the students seem to be able to ‘steal’ their knowledge in every lesson.

Hi! My name is Chanel Maria Novela. I am an alumnus of FTV UMN year 2015 from Animation major, and I’m currently working as a Senior 3D Rigger at Streamline Studios Malaysia. What I do here as a Senior 3D Rigger is create a more complex rig setup for animators, troubleshoot any rig-related issues, mentor my coworkers about the pipeline and create production-quality skinning and deformation. I am really blessed since UMN has taught me all the fundamentals and foundations that are necessary for my work in the animation and game industry. Not only do I obtain the hard skills in the software utilization, my leadership and soft-skills abilities are also trained while I was on my team creating our short animation film. UMN also provided us with a lot of facilities that can really help us grow our creativity, which is very important in the creative industry.

Hello! I’m Edbert, an alumnus of UMN’s 2017 animation major. I am currently working full time as a VFX Artist at Mattebox Visualworks and have been so for the past 2 years. My ability to work as a professional artist is mostly because of the education & experience I received from my learning days on campus. Crucial fundamentals in my field & the chance to work on various types of projects enabled me to develop my skills in ways I couldn’t on my own. Aside from my working skills, my campus life also helped me in developing important soft skills that are very needed in the workplace today. Therefore I’m very grateful and will always reminisce about the time I had in UMN.
