Laboratories
The Visual Communication Design study program of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara .has many kinds of laboratories that help the process of learning and creating for each academic community. Laboratories with “innovation and learning support” can be used in academic and non-academic creative processes.
Laboratories’ facilities such as hardware and software are constantly improved, renewed, and updated to follow the newest trend in technology.
The laboratory hopes to train the students to adapt to industry needs to produce creative, innovative, and professional graduates

- FG651 Hybrid Film Production
Photography Laboratory
Photography Laboratory is located on the 6th floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower B. This laboratory consists of tools that support photography and filming needs, such as lighting, backdrops, tabletops, reflectors, and so on. In this laboratory, students can borrow equipment such as DSLR & SLR cameras, Camcorder Sony HXR-MC1500P, Camcorder Sony HVR HD1000P, etc. Photography Laboratory is generally used as a research laboratory for the Film Study Program. Moreover, it is also used outside of classes to support coursework, final assignments, various internal and external projects, and other student activities.

Sound Design Laboratory
Photography Laboratory is located on the 6th floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower B. This laboratory consists of tools that support photography and filming needs, such as lighting, backdrops, tabletops, reflectors, and so on. Game Design & Analysis Laboratory
Game Design Laboratory is located on the 6th floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower B. Game Design Laboratory is a working lab with a high specification PC used to create 2D and 3D games with high development intensity. Multiple software such as 3Ds Max, Unity, Blender, and others are installed here. On the other hand, Game Design Laboratory is a working lab to analyze existing products that can be used as a reference for students and lecturers to research, discuss, forum group discussion, user testing, etc. In this lab, you can find collections of board games, card games, and console games to support the students and lecturers for existing study and reference purposes.

Illustration and Publishing Laboratory
Illustration and Publishing Laboratory is located on the 3rd floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower B. This lab is a working lab for the Film study program, consisting of illustration-making tools such as Wacom Cintiq for 2D illustration and Oculus Rift for 3D illustration. The illustration laboratory is usually used to support mid-term exams, final exams, and internal/external projects of the Film study program. Besides that, Illustration and Publishing Laboratory also covered a Masterpiece organization that produces online and digital magazines.
The Illustration and Publishing Laboratory has a goal to create artwork and research that are linked with the needs of the industry’s corporation, the result of which will be registered for IP (Intellectual Property). In this lab, the students will learn about the creative process of illustration kinds; 2D and 3D mascot design, 360 illustrations, etc. This lab covers productivity and can be the place for students to share knowledge for student to student, student to the lecturer, and student to practitioners with applying the standard and environment based on professional industry.

Green Screen & Immersive Laboratory
Green Screen & Immersive Laboratory is located on the 6th floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower B. This lab is a working lab for the Film study program that is usually used outside the study schedule but also can be used to support the process of the mid-term exams, final exams, and internal and external projects. Motion capture, Oculus Rift, Virtual Reality Head Mounted Display, and other equipment can be found in this lab. The students will learn about the creative process of interactive media, such as a virtual concert, virtual influencer, motion capture, CGI effects, etc., in this lab.

Film Post Production Laboratory (Macintosh)
Printing Laboratory is located on the 1st floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower D. Students know the printing laboratory as U-Print. U-Print is a working lab of the Visual Communication Design study program that has a function to support the printing needs of the Visual Communication Design study program’s tasks. U-Print has various facilities, such as A3-sized laser printing, plotter machine, laser cutting machine, binding machine, and 3D printing machine. 2D and 3D artwork such as placards, merchandise, 3D characters, etc. U-Print also uses product and printing standards.
Display of printing works with any media and variation of finishing such as acrylic, MDF wood, packaging, hard-cover book, kind of bindings, and kind of papers can be found at Printing Laboratory. This display can be used as a reference source for students to choose which printing technique suits their project.

Animation Post Production Laboratory (Windows)
Animation Post Production Laboratory is a Windows-based Laboratory located on the 5th floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower D. This lab consists of 40 Windows-based PCs supporting the study session using specific software that needs Windows operating systems such as Autodesk, Unity, Blender, Toonboom, etc.

Workshop and Crafting Laboratory
Workshop and Crafting Laboratory is located on the basement floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower C. This room is a working lab of the Film study program and is mainly used for heavy work such as painting, sawing woods, painting batik, wood engraving, etc. The laboratory is separated from the classroom and located in an open outdoor environment, so the activities using a heater or any chemicals won’t create pollution and clog the drain line. Machines that support those activities, such as sewing machine, APAR, stove, and canting for batik, are also facilitated in this lab.

Cinema Room
Cinema Room, located on the 6th floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower B, is equipped with Dolby 7.1 Surround audio. Cinema Screening gives UMN students the luxury to finalize their film through a sound check. When films by UMN students are launched, it is expected that the sound quality in the film is up to the highest industry standards. Future film screenings will also be equipped with Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve (color grading tool), where students can edit colors directly on their films.

Acting Room
The acting Room is located on the 9th floor of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Tower C. It’s a room that has been built or equipped with surrounding mirrors and wooden floors, barres fixed to the wall as a support, and a set of PC for playing music or video to encourage acting and dancing. In most cases, the acting room is used to shoot photos or videos.

Lab Procedure
Applicants fill in the booking form (bit.ly/PinjamLabFSDUMN).
The Photography Laboratory is an exception. Please book the Photography Laboratory at gapura.umn.ac.id.
The Laboratory officer, Arts and Design Faculty laboratory coordinator, and HSE Team will check the form’s completeness and the availability of laboratory and/with the requested equipment.
The applicant will get an email notification approval from [email protected] once the form is accepted. Hence, the applicant has to make sure that the email stated in the form is an active email and can be contacted by staff.
The laboratory is only available to book on working days and hours of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, Monday to Friday from 08.00 – 17.00.
The book time for the laboratory and/with equipment should be the same as what has been stated on the form. The user who’s late at returning the equipment will be put on the black-list for one semester.
All Arts and Design Faculty laboratories and/with equipment users should follow the general and particular rules that have been started and will be sent to each user’s email when the booking form is accepted.
